kitzell5, yes, I got one hell of a shock when I started doing that with checking I.P. addresses about 3 years ago. Out of about 15 'ladies' whom I was in correspondence with, having checked ALL their IP addresses from ALL their emails sent--most cross checked as being the same syndicate!!!

MISTAKE IN INSTRUCTIONS! Item no 9) "9)In the ‘Google box’ place the mouse cursor and left click. Now right click with mouse. You will see that the copied data is showing." -- THIS SHOULD HAVE SAID: "After right click, drop down menu, and left click on 'paste'. Then the copied data will be showing in the google box" Sorry about that, just checking to see if you were reading it ok, lol!!

Tom, & SOE, pleased to be of assistance. I remember several years ago, I got a new job as a sales manager. One of my subordinates (a right 'smart ass'!) was supposed to show me how to operate the computer system. He left out a Vital step. Of course I looked a total moron--could not operate it at all. Then a friendly finance director showed me. Valuable lesson always get the instructions written down. Some people just cannot teach, and are not trying to be a smart ass, just assume too much. I would say one other thing about checking I.P's of suspected scammers. Check ALL emails from each person. Make a note of ALL I.P. addresses used by them. You may well find that the first 2/3 emails check out ok, then whammo! One comes up as a known scammer. I think they use friends computers sometimes when beginning a correspondence, then get lazy and switch back to their own computer (which is logged as a scammer!) In the past i have been gobsmacked to find that a 'lady' whom I was in correspondance with for several weeks, and had checked out ok, suddenly her I.P. addresses came up different--as a known scammer'! Really pissed me off that did!

pp, many thanks for that, and i do find it confusing. many years ago i worked on computers at stock control and i could do anything with it. but the company closed down and i took up something else.a year ago i went back to computers, and jesus what a difference with technology, im now like a baby crawling in nappies with all this. But i am slowly learning and i have had great help from some of the folks here.Though helpless as i am, i have succeeded in getting about 15 of those scumbags locked up,mayby it is the luck of the irish, but im not sure if u have got my e-mails on the events. ghana is my speciality. many thanks.

Hi Tom, It occurs to me, that as you are new to computers, it might be useful to give you some ‘blow by blow’ instructions on tracing people who write emails to you. 1)when you receive an email, open it ‘double clicking on left mouse button’ 2)at top of opened email, you will see a row of buttons. Left Click on third from left, called ‘view’ 3)In the pop up window you will see a list of titles, near bottom is ‘options’ left click on this 4)In the box which pops up at bottom you will see a box with data inside, called ‘internet headers’. Use button on right of box to scroll down with left mouse. 5)You will see ‘received from: name.name.net (etc) [series of numbers separated by dots] 6)Position mouse button at end of series of numbers, holding down the mouse button, drag it across to the beginning of the name. You will see it highlighted in blue 7)Now let go the left mouse button and right click over the blue area. Chose ‘copy’ from the drop down menu. 8)Now open up a new version of your internet browser. You should see ‘google box’ near top. If not, then put in at top-address bar(after clearing all showing url address, --‘google’. This will bring up the google page. 9)In the ‘google box’ place the mouse cursor and left click. Now right click with mouse. You will see that the copied data is showing. 10) To the right of that ‘google box’ it says ‘go’. Left click on that button. 11) You will see a new page appear with details of that I.P. address 12) If it says ‘no match found’, try deleting the name part. Put cursor in front of numbers and use arrow on keyboard (above ‘enter key) to delete the name part. 13) Then enter ‘go’ again to trace just the numbers series (known as the I.P. address 14) Go back to the (step 4 above) ‘internet headers box, and scroll down doing same steps 5-13 with ALL IP addresses showing in that box. 15)When finished just press ‘close’ on that box (step 4) 16)I find it helpful to ‘drag and copy’ all info from that box onto a blank word document. Then I can delete what I do not want, and keep IP addresses with details that I know added about that person writing to me. Hope that this helps, I remember all too well when I was starting with computers. Many people just assume that people understand what they mean/know themselves. It can be very confusing if an essential step is left out. Suggest that you ‘drag & copy’ this posting onto a blank word doc, and print it out for future reference? (steps 6 & 7 & 9 above) Best of luck, and 'good hunting'!
