Comment from Russian lady

To: Freddyboy Canada Hotels and apartments, this is totally different in Russia. For the decent hotel, just like anywhere else in the world, you can proceed online (book the room or pay it in advance with your card). And of course, they will require a deposit from you and if you change your mind about taking the room, you will probably have some penalty. For the decent apartment - you gotta go see it first and you do NOT need a deposit. If you like it, you can go ahead and rent it for the number of days you need it. Negotiation is not acceptable though, but the prices are usually quite reasonable. Just make sure all the water pipes are in order and you just feel the apartment is nice and cozy.

By the sounds of his reply to my posting I am beginning to wonder if your first version was not maybe correct 666. Perhaps our friend Dameon has crossed over and infiltrated the ranks of the enemy. You will notice how convincing he is...and he knows every line that tears at me heart strings...and he just knows those words will have me running down to the nearest Western Union office to send him that $7 million you can see he/she needs so despertly. He truely has brought tears to my eye. :) Hey there anon. I'll take the chance and tell you I am from the sunny friendly province of Manitoba...eh

Do you cook tasty meals, Dameon? Do you like I? Is your mum living in a small apartment but your grandmother lives in the country and you visit her every weekend? Were you searching the internet because all Russian women of Nigerian descent are heavy drinkers and hit mine the daddy? Did you break up with your last internet lover because all she wanted was naked pictures of you? Sorry (not too sorry, though) about the Yankees.

Comment from Dameon

What are you trying to say FB? If anyone wants to come to NYC - all they have to do Western Union me 7 million $ and I guarantee them a perfectly safe hotel in Downtown South Bronx. Just be advised that my Daddy was killed in a taxicab accident and I must pay the hospital - they took my passport until I pay. That was 1988; my ex-girlfriend beat me and left me in this hotel. The manager won't let me leave until I pay the bill. An almost twenty year bill is quite hefty. My Daddy did leave me an inheritance of 100 billion dollars but I do not want Pres. Bush to find out, so if you give me your bank account information, I will be more than happy to transfer the money to your account and you can keep 30 % as a fee. Also, if you want me to travel to one of the other 50 states, please W.U. me the money for my Visa. It costs $1000. I have read all your structures and have found all of you are good to write to. I am Sicilian, but I was born in Lugansk. I am a simple and shy boy but I will post pictures that will knock your eyes out. My wardrobe cost me tens of thousands of dollars. Oh right - my picture is of a white boy, but I have lived in Nigeria and Ghana where there is a very large white population filled with models from Hawaii Focus International Modeling Agency. And I know many Brazilian Super-Models who like living in shit-hole cities in Russia. Have I missed anything ;-} I suggest that everyone write to whatever websites you have been part of and bitch to them that they are not doing a good enough job weeding out the scammers. At least they can do is post a warning on their home page. OK- my fingers hurt, I need to go drink!

Comment from Freddyboy Canada

There is something here that I am missing completely [maybe because I am just an old prairie boy] BUT when I choose to travel around this great land of ours I phone ahead to hotels/motels in the cities where I am going to stop over and book a room [I hate spending the night in the pick-up truck]. When I book the room they ALWAYS ask for a credit card number to hold the room. I am sure Greg felt the same thing was necessary for holding a room in any large city. He was smart enough to not give his credit card number and thought sending cash was an acceptable alternative. In this case that also proved to be a mistake. When I visited a special someone in Brazil she found me a Hotel [my Canadian term] near her families house. Once again they required a deposit to hold the room. I sent the money and my room was waiting upon arrival. To make a deposit or use a credit card number is a very standard procedure no matter where in the world you travel..although I will admit I have no expierence in Russia or the Ukraine. On my trip to the Ukraine I did have a hotel booked but my lady friend found a flat for much less money and I paid for it after I got there. If Greg has never travelled to Russia before I can understand that he would assume the booking proceedure would be the same as elsewhere in the world. This time he was wrong and got taken to the cleaners. For an example lets let anyone of you try visiting Dameon and then trying to find a room after you get to New York. Maybe you will..but personally I would like to know for sure ahead of time.

Comment from Mike

"This is pure stupidity. I hope you have learned your lesson." is not constructive criticism.

Comment from the One who knows

Gents, Brian is perfectly right. It is always possible to pay cash when you get here and the deposit (before your arrival that is) is NOT necessary.

Comment from Wombat

Look you blokes, Newbies don't know about scammers until usually it's too late, or they get naturally suspicious. I know that I go a hell of a shock when I eventually trawled the Internet for scam fraud. Websites usually will not put links in for anti-scam sites...although the one I used to use, "Love Topping", did have info and links...that was the only thing that saved me....plus good advice from the site management team...but even they told me it is not possible to verify all info placed on their site because of logistical/resource limitations. We can't stop it....some blokes will always suffer from a "blood rush" and their logical caution is lost.Report them and move on, or bale out of that area.

Well hello!!! yes their is a lot of information out there on these so called scumbags scammers and they do warn you,DON'T SEND MONEY. But for some reason, the message doesn't seem do get across.Maybe there should be a better way to get this message out so no one else gets scammed. This would help the problem out, even though it won't stop them completely, but this would make them think twice. So Mike,I don't want you to think that I'm jumping all over this guy or anyone else in that matter.I'm here to help stop these bastards and hopely we can help others before try get scammed.Brain! that is a good idea about staying in a hotel.Lucky for me,I have friends living in St.Petersburg,so I can stay with them when I go there to visit.

Comment from weston

well at least he had the courage to tell us such a story so i will refrain from my comments- dont want to ridicule anyone
to top ^

Comment from Brian

I think though Mike we become frustrated when we read these scam reports that after all the information that is out there people are still sending money. There is nothing wrong with some constructive criticism. Common sense tells you you don't send the money ahead. Just like if I am going to have a Big Mac at McDonalds - I don't western union the money to one of these scammers so she can reserve it for me. I pay cash when I get there. This guy had good intentions though - he was planning to see her. She probably put pressure on him that he needed to forward the money to "hold" the apartment. Though I think in this town there is plenty of availability for apartments. Also I think it's not a good idea to stay in an apartment when you are meeting someone the first time. A hotel offers added security and control.
to top ^

Comment from Mike

My point is this: There are thousands of males out there who are new to this online romance thing. They are not awars of these scams until they get stung the first time. It does no one any good to jump all over them if this is the first time they have been stung. Ridiculing them at this point is about like closing the barn door after the horse (pronounced hoss up heah in Maine) has escaped. Just show a little decency and compassion. Now, if he reports a second time that he has sent money and was scammed, he's fair game.

Hey Mike, thinks for the input.I'm not only talking about this guy,but everyone who has fallen for various scams. When you recieve emails and photos of beautiful ladies, think about it,these criminals are good but not that good.Like Ken said,"don't fall for the fantasy" If we keep sending money,we are only making the problem worse.I like to thank the websites for having these blacklist so we are adware of whats going on.

Comment from Ken

It's easy to fall for the fantasy, but wake up and stand back and think before you act.

Comment from Brian

The bitch got the $250. What's she going to do with it? Hold the apartment for the guy or go buy new shoes? Think about it. Use your head men.

Comment from Mike

Lighten up, Ken, Brian and Anon. Why kick a guy when he's down? He made a mistake and has learned from it. Plus, he reported it here so others will also learn.

Comment from Anonymous

Hello!!!! haven't anyone learned anything yet.Don't send money. You are only making the problem worse. These criminal will keep sending emails and photos out as long as there is suckers to fall for their scam.No matter how tempting they make it,ignore them. They think that North Americans are fools and so stupid that we will keep sending money to them.

Comment from Ken

Hey Pal please send me $1500.00 and I won't let you stay with me at my home. Good one!

Comment from Brian

Why did you forward money for the apartment? You can always pay cash when you get there. This is pure stupidity. I hope you have learned your lesson.
