May 2006 at a resturant(Billy Bons, or something like that) when she celebrated her 27th birthday! I was there, as her boyfriend!... And guess who paid the 600usd bill. Update fellows, Not only did I not get caught in this trap, thanks to JMB, but I also met Irina, I am meeting her in Kiev this month, I am so excited about this woman, she is real, people have always told me that good things come to those who wait, and also they (whoever they is) tell me that everything happens for a reason. A very small percentage of Russian women stoop to these levels to take from men, I also have heard stories of Western men scamming European women so I guess It all comes out in the wash. There are good European women out there, we just have to find them, if this is truly what you search for and you are persistant it will work out for all of us. Wish me luck on my trip to Ukraine and hang in there, I will give you an update when I get back home. :)

It gives me great satisfaction to know that all my efforts to expose Katya's scam have saved at least one man from her greedy clutches. It proves that, if used appropriately, the community of men who share information honestly here at this anti-scam.org web site can actually make it work.

Derek and I have been in touch over the past six weeks, ever since he first contacted me after seeing my report on Katya here, then following the link to my web site to get all the details. We agreed to keep our communications secret and private until he felt absolutely sure that Katya was not someone to be trusted with a man's heart or his wallet.

At some point in the near future, I'll post letters Katya sent him at the same time that she sent them to me, so all can observe the duplicity and dishonesty in her relationships with men she meets online. As Derek mentioned, Katya used the same words, the same sentiments, and the same emotionally manipulative tricks on each of us at the same time to make us each believe that we were her uniquely special man.

In one of our phone conversations, Derek informed me that Katya confessed to him that she is the "Robin Hood" alias who made the hostile comments against me earlier. As I wrote then, I had suspected that she was "Robin Hood" when I pointed out the perverse sense of humor underlying the motivation for thieves like Katya and Ilona to steal from men they invite into their forest.

While I, too, believe that there is good in everyone, I don't recommend that anyone go on a worthless crusade anytime soon to find it in someone as devious as Katya.

Hey all, maybe I can shed some truth on this subject as to whether or not John-Michael is for real. I had been in contact with Katya since June 15 2006, My plans were to go to Zaporozhye on September 29th, when one day I was searching for Zaporozhye and happen to find this site, and low and behold there was her picture on the front page. Yes I am one that John-Michael saved, he saved me not the disappointment, but the money. I have sent John-Michael all of my correspondence with Katya and we have even compared letters, we discovered that they are alike only the names have been changed. I do not have a whole lot to say about Katya, I don't want to embarass myself and say that I Loved her, I didn't even get to meet her, but I felt she was someone I could possibly care for and possibly have as a wife, so to tell you that I was not disappointed would be a lie. I just thought I should come out of hiding and let each of you know that John-Michael's efforts have paid off for me and I am greatful to him. What is ironic about the whole thing is that early last year I had corresponded with Ilona as well, but nothing ever came of that relationship, so I can not say one way or the other honestly about her. I hope that John-Michael's efforts will possibly save someone else from disaster, money can be replaced but emotions are not something to play around with, and I think that upsets me more than anything is the fact of how can someone be so calculating to play with another human beings feelings like Katya has. I hope she reads this, and somehow inside wish that it would change her. I believe that there is good in everybody, but If I wanted to be shit on really I could have found that right here, I do not need to fly 6000 miles around the world to find exactly what I have right here in my back yard. This ordeal has somewhat changed my perspective on searching abroad. Thank you John-Michael for everything and I hope you are doing well, anybody else in doubt give him a break, and hopefully he will post my letters, you can see for yourself that there was never intimacy involved with either of us hell they were the same letters, just different names. I am sure that I will open some men's eyes b e f o r e they come into a similar situation (or at least are much better prepared to scope with it in time, once they get the first hints). As for your letters to the officials including president and embassy I would not like to be in the position of the officer to decide what to do with it. Ok, it is obvious that they wanted to use you as their ATM-Maschine. But - did they steal anything from you? Did they take anything from you, which you did not give them by your free will? What shall the police do about such people? They lend you an appartment for 80,- $/night, which they first offered for 65,- $ - they said they need a computer, and you gave it to Katarina. Where is the point? Imagine Katerina taken to the police - what shall she be blamed for? One possible question of the police to Katerina: "Katerina Yakovenko, here we have evidence that you have been together with John-Michael in our city, and you asked him to get a computer from him for 1.000,- US-$. At this picture, showing you and John, it is evident that you are not happy being together with John - do you think it is correct to take a computer from him under such circumstances? Can you explain to the police why you are not happy at this picture?" etc. The fact we men have to realize is that we are going into a very difficult situation once we see a young lady and forget to reason, do not listen to the signals from the experienced parts of our brain. This is OUR mistake, and as long as there are men coming with plenty of money in their pockets such crooks will be fed and will have their business. There is a big temtation for all of us seniour gentlemen to counterbalance the number of our years with the number of our gifts and the money we spend on our "darling". I made, to a certain extent, the same mistake in the past. As a consequence of dating with more than 100 ladies in 5 countries of the former UDSSR I came to the conclusion: do not show your money, do not make big presents. If you are not able to make the lady happy by your presence, by your humor, by your attention, by your love and care - go home and read a good book, watch a nice film! And then search again, learn some Russian phrases in order to better survive in the dungles of Ukraine and Russia, make your next attempt. I think this is a good advice, since I was allowed to see the pure gold in this country, excellent ladies, ladies who have become very, very rare in our home countries (I only regret I was not allowed to touch this kind of "gold", to take it home and make her mine). As for appartment-scam I can tell my own story: I once visited a girl in Berdyansk/Ukraine and was offered a kind of "cheap" appartment. I think it was the first time I took such an offer instead of going to the hotel. On the second day our translator, after I left the appartment and joined translator and my lady, tried to convince me to move to another, "much better" appartment. She was almost insisting on her opinion. I was too stupid to understand her hint, and since I only need a bed to sleep and do not care so much about anything else I did not want to change the place. When I came home this day I understood her recommendation: I found the door open, unlocked, and my spare money, which I kept apart from my wallet, had gone. The crooks were "polite", they only produced a mess and took the money but left everything else - still a very, very unpleasant feeling within a foreign country. This was real fraud, but - I was not 100% sure that I locked the appartment, 95% yes, but 5% of my memory was not certain, I was in doubt. So - I did not even call the police, just left the city the next day. Katerina (or: her agent!) sent me an introduction letter at anastasiaweb.com this summer and I am glad I did not respond to her - though my brain shrinkled to the size of a bean looking at her nice picture there was enough experience left to drop her letter unread.

I lived in Ukraine for nearly 3 years. In Ukraine, Anything & Everything is for sale. The prices are the only variants. I had a wonderful time, in general, but did get my passport stolen on Christmas Eve. That spoiled the Brit Embassy's Duty Officer's morning! Until I told him I had a second passport - then he damn-near dribbled down the line. What's the point of this story? Well, because of a contact I'd developed in a senior civil-service position, it took 30 minutes & 50 US dollars to get some utterly magic & high-powered stamps put in my spare passport. I guess that what I'm saying is that you're correct about the 'pecking order' & it's necessary to go to the top of the heap to get something done at the bottom, but I suspect that your OWN complaints to all the Ua Embassies & Presidents won't actually get any action. Promises, yes, but that's all. You need to get a Meaningful US Politician to make the complaints on your behalf, select one who has some input into Foreign Aid Committees or something like that. If there's a threat to, or offer of, Serious Money then an Ukrainian will squat even BEFORE you say 'Shit'! Oh, and just something else to bear in mind, don't go out of your way to make any enemies whilst you're in Ukraine. They can be really, really dangerous. Good luck!

In no way is this meant to be a slam to you Mr. Battaglia, you were there first hand, not me. A soft heart is not easily mended, trust me I know by experience. This scam is called the apartment rental scam, well the last time I paid my landlord I didn't hand him the money and say boy you sure are scamming me see you next month, if anyone is going to Ukraine and assumes that the rent will be free, I would reconsider leaving the house, let alone going to another country. Now a two-bedroom apartment in Kiev rents from 65.00 to 100.00 depending on the amenities so the rent wasn't far off it doesn't seem unless the rats were talking about eating you in the middle of the night. I can appreciate your kind heart in buying Katya a computer, and maybe for selfish reasons also, you wanted better access in your correspondence with her following your departure. What would have been wrong with saying, darling, the taxi driver has got to go, the old pocket book can't take many more hundred dollar rides to see the dam. Gentlemen Love either exists or it doesn't, but I am living proof that you can't buy Love, spending my money has always been a decision that I made on my own, no one has ever forced me to spend any of it, except for my ex-wife, maybe I should post her picture to ward you guys away. I guess what I am trying to say is use the same principals over there that you do over here, how much are you willing to take before you draw the line and say all she wants me for is my money, this dating thing seems to be a numbers game and trust me to get to the good ones we may just have to go through some bad ones. JMB...you had EXACTLY the same expierence as I did. I however could not make myself believe she was actually scamming me. Once a again the head and heart thing. I too was basically a prisoner in my own flat until she found a few minutes to come and rescue me for dinner out at yet another expensive resturant..but I thought ..oh well at least I get to see her. My biggest mistake was not leaving the day after I arrived. I have finally convinced Globaladies to trash her profile and I recieved a lengthy apology from them, but strangely not until I informed them that was familiar with this website. Too late to help some of us but perhaps if we keep at it we can prevent other guys from falling into the same trap. Beware the scam takes place after you do everything right and arrive in HER home town..then when we are most vulnerable they will tear you to shreds in their greed for more money.

I try to catch as many scammers as I can. I have profiles on about 5 sites. My profile states that I will not send money to you for visa/tickets because you have a friend that works for a travel agency and can get your tickets in 2 weeks and it also states that I will not send money to a translation agency. Put this in your profile and many scammers will stay away. Some will still contact you, but they are easy to spot. An honest woman will not ask for money.

Even if you'd get married, such girl will divorce you within two years and run away with a cute young hottie (and as much of your property as possible). I'm afraid we've got to be realistic: you can't buy love from a supermodel half your age, in both Ukraine or America. She'll only love the money.

John-Michael this sounds so similar to a scam that I was sucked into by a lady in Sumy. Expensive resturants, expensive drives in a taxi, I was really taken to the cleaners over the price of the cheap little flat she advised me to rent. Her and her I know realiaze boss or at least advisor made me pay $45.00/day american in advance. Taxi ride ride from Borispol to Sumy cost $400.00 american plus tip of $100.00. YES I was a fool but believed she really cared for me. The story can go on and on but basically the same as yours. One question that would be of interest to me John-Michael is if she allowed to to have sexual relations with her during your visit?? My scammer in Sumy would only allow the occassional peck on the cheek..and convinced me that it is customary for no Ukrainian girl to have sexual relations before actual marriage. Sorry man we were both scammed and in a very similiar way. Maybe some of the other guys on this site have some advice as to how to spot this kind of scam before they bleed you dry??
