The only point I have ever attempted to make here is that everyone should be careful before they give up their $. I have been fortunate enough to travel to many locations. I just returned from almost three weeks in Moldova, Romania and the Ukraine. It was my best vacation yet. I rented an apartment from a family during my stay in Moldova. And in the end, they took no money from me. They cooked for me and I had a great time. And of course it did not hurt that they had a beautiful daughter. And the age difference was only 12 years. Love is a risk, whether online or in a bar. But being the victim of Grand Larceny while losing your heart has got to be rough. I have been very lucky; having been born and raised in NYC, I have become a cynical bastard. Words and pretty pictures are no substitute for action. I am on this site because I believe it is a good thing. I have not been online for months my introduction to scammers was on an American Dating site where there were no safeguards against people posting false profiles. I received over 75 hits from scammers; mostly men (this is only a guess). This pissed me off! I have gotten close to having at least two of them arrested and they have sent me some serious threats using the term "Mafia". Having been raised in Little Italy, I giggle when people threaten me with that term. I am well aware of the rise in organized crime in East Europe and Russia. So when I read that some dude just lost a weeks salary on some fake chick, I feel an obligation to say I am sorry and to warn others about this internet dating scam scene. And as for being robbed for the $400; I am sorry. If that was me, when the price was raised, my fist would have greeted his temple, no matter the consequences. I am 48 and I have no delusions about being with a 20 year old. My friends might just start calling me "Aqualung". So I will say this one more time to all gentlemen. If you have decided to join a dating site, research the site and have an idea of what and who you are hoping to meet. Then stick with this plan. And if your intentions are to actually meet a woman from a different country, be aware of the risks and don't fall in love with a picture. Pictures don't keep you warm at night. And if a girl sends you a photo of her holding a little fury creature close to her bosom, that means that she has already fallin in love with "WOMBAT". : ) And as far as my beloved USA is concerned, I truly do not wish to get into any heavy debate as to whether we are good or bad for his planet. No problem Dameon. Never been to the States and no thank you I will never go to the States. From what I have seen in the news and like Fox News I feel safer in Russia. :-) The matter of the passports is the fact that for simple things need identification. To buy a firearm you need cash only. I have nothing against carrying identification. I have an ID card and I can even fly through any EU countries with it and no passport. I was in a hotel and 2 Chechynians (most probably spelt wrong but sure simon will correct me) tried to lure me in their car. Now I am sure that two nice fine gentlemen who do not speak English, never met me, ONLY wanted to show me round the country. That same girlfriend in Moscow told me that she had lost her passport (got all the tears and everything) and how she could not return home. So we went by taxi. A 3 hour drive cost me US$400. He knew we were stuck and had to pay the price. Another trip, the agency I used for the invitation wanted US$150 between Sheremetyevo and Domododovo airport as transfer. I fund it through Aeroflot agency at US$50. Yeah there are some nice ones. One girlfriends dad gave me his "army" watch. I was told I had to return the favour. So I gave him my watch. Ok worth about $80. His watch I have seen it working because it winds itself up by movement. Problem is cannot change the time/date on it. :) And how do you work it out it is only a handfull of knuckleheads? By the amount of scammers reported, it should be called "fair amount" of knuckleheads. And if a person put himself out as a lonely heart, it is asking for problems and shows vulnerability. Yeah it does not sound nice but it is true. Treat them mean, keep them keen. Going around saying I am lonely, vulnerable, in need of someone, desperate to find love she will think easy pickings. Now imagine a Russian or Ukrainian having to understand what you wrote after translated by some online translator!!!!! Something that most probably changes words etc etc...... If you send her a letter in Russian and you know that the "back translation" is pretty accurate and she says "I could not understand it so I had to get a translator to translate" you have a scammer. And besides...... what you mean "We scammed them first"???????? After 2nd world war they were part of Russia. It is only recently all this dating started. Until then, to get a visa to go to Ukraine or Russia was inviting the KGB to be on your backside.

Incidentally, look for what jobs are well needed in your country. e.g. in UK it is doctors, nurses are in need. If she does not speak English FORGET IT. She may be good looking. She has zilch chance of finding work. She can be a brain surgeon. If she does not speak English she is hopeless in your country. The MAIN thing the Embassy looks for is "how will she integrate". Or how will she be "productive" in your country. If the chances are none, then getting a visa are none as well. @Mark. Yep. You are right. UNLESS she is something like a brain/heart surgeon, or she has some talent that is very much needed in your country, or something like that it is hard work. On a rough estimate, a couple of trips to "meet her" just to get evidence of "your love" to apply for a visa you are looking at about $6,000 to $7,000. Then you have the visa application to put through, which can be refused on the most simple of mistakes. Then you bring her over. She divorces you after say 2 years and makes a mint out of it. Great stuff isn't it?! And to give you an example...... Bulgarian woman. I showed my credit cards to Embassy. All in all about $20,000 credit limit. Showed my bank statements. About $10,000 savings. Gave guarantee that she will stay at my home. I will pay for her ticket. I will make sure she leaves the country. I pledged my savings as guarantee she will leave. I was told I can go to prison if she becomes an alien in the country to which I agreed. She showed she had $3000 as spending money. She got refused a visa on the basis that she did not have a job to go back to. Isn't life a wonderful thing. :-)

1: They have internal passport which is like an i.d. 2: they have an international passport. 3: they do not have third passport. If they want to travel to countries like Holland Italy and some others, they apply for a Schengen Visa. Use google and you will find which countries accept it. England does NOT accept it. Malta accepts it on the condition it has not been used for any other country. If it is a multiple entry Schengen visa then it is accepted. Watch your "woman" panic when you tell her you are going out for a walk! You will get told "This is Russia".You cannot walk in the streets with more then US$100 on you. And how many of you can afford all this? To REALLY find a woman, go over, visa, hotel/apartment, wine her and dine her, buy presents, taxis and all sorts? Then maybe it will fall through and you have to start all over again. And do you think scammers are only on "internet"? What if you marry her. simon you actually do seem to be a rather intelligent sort of person..much to my surprise. You also seem to know about world travel and the workings of the eastern european countries..and you are correct on all accounts. But I have no idea why the referal to the slot machines and looking for a lifetime partner have any connection. Yes I helped them financially..who in their right mind wouldn't..and for some after I got back to canada I also financially supported them. Finally after a few more months it began to dawn on me that we were really no closer to her landing in Canada than when I had left Ukraine. I asked some very pointed questions and cut off the money supply...the answer I recieved??? Yes you are a very nice man and thank you for your help but I am not really wanting to come and live with you.... Was I scammed?? I don't honestly know..but yes probably. But how could I be I did everything right?? I followed all the rules..I made sure I wasn't b eing scammed..but the end result?? It cost me more money than i wish to admit [probably only pocket change for you simon]..but it was lots to me. But worse yet was the damage to my heart and to my respect for these wonderful women of the Ukrain and Russia. You can't set down rules and think you are going to be safe and alright and nothing but good will follow. I think it is calle a Shurgay Visa and then an international passport. Assuming you don't speak Russian or Ukrainian, I am sure you can find an agency or Russian person, got in NYC there are millions of them in Florida, hundreds of thousands or email the local Ukrainian Embassy in Texas and ask if the papers are legitimate. If they are not then why don't we post that information and also the name of the translating agencies that have burned you. I speak Russian and write in Cyrillic A and when I get a letter from the companies I send a letter to the lady in Russian. If she does not answer it has cost me nothing. Also all of these translating companies have to be licensed, Ask them for the license. I checked out FT and they are legitmate, thsn it goes back to the slot concept. How many times do I have to write a beautiful lady before I find the one honest one that is really beautiful... If she write me back in Russian, I can converse with her but you, who don't know Russian look for a translator. A person you know is Russian. Here where I live there are tens of thousands of Russian ladies. Unfortunately they have been bitten by the American warewolf bitch and have turned. she is writing to me having found me on elitemate .com. The replies to e-mails I send her come back like boomerangs, doubelquick-time. Most of them are on dialup. They scam. Let them pay out. I have even gone as far as to use the e mail addresses they use for spam mailing. Register it on a sex site. Let them get spammed. If they do say 3 hours a day on the net and for 2 hours they get spam mail or time wasting letters one day they will give up. They want to play the mugs game. Lets play. At our rules.

I wholeheartedly agree. Play them like a big bass. I've done the same with scammers, even going so far as to have the "money" delivered by courier to their apartment. I must hire a poor courier service as the money always seems to be left at the wrong apartment!

She is also 'working' under the name of Svetlana and using the e-mail address of: Not-the-game@bk.ru Quite ironic!! She is on Cupid bay and was also on Single-Russian-Women. Have a huge collection of her photos and am lucky as she has not, as yet, asked me for money. Yet !
