She also contacted me in Canada. First few letters were nice, then I love you we will have a beautiful life together. She said she had all her papers ready to come to Canada, Would I send 1300.00 US for her plane tickets. I was sure this was a scam, but not 100%. I was about to send her the money until I found her here on the scammers list. Thanks very much.

This is correct, but I think they also have to travel with money in their purse, comensurate with the period that they are going for.....also to indicate to the FSU authorities that thy are not going to do a 'runner"...thus, many Ruskie sheilas ask for this "travel money" ...whether they are bullshitting or not. I am not 100% on that, but it seems normal/logical.ALSO, I think that I can remember my Embassy, over there, telling me that to get a "fiancee visa",(for the purposes of immigration) the bloke has to visit her first and have a well documented history of "relationship foundation",and also act as "financial sponsor" for her for the nine month limit (in Aust' anyway) lead up to the marriage. No marriage, she must leave/return...simple as that. IF she comes out on a "spouse visa"(obviously they get married over there...Aust' form 47SP), then a "financial sponsorship"(Aust' form 20SP) by the bloke is required to cover her for 2 years,up until Autralian Citizenship is available. This protects the Government against "un-employment" claims etc etc. For the records, a "spouse visa" for Australia costs Aust$1340.00....win or lose !! Associated other documents and their validation, document courier costs etc etc (for both parties) can add up to around A$2300-2400....and,and and... this does not include your "normal" actual wedding costs.IF I add up all the costs of my first trip to Peru(August), then add in visa costs, plus my next trip(Dec/Jan') to Peru (13000klms) to get married etc etc etc, plus her "one way ticket" back to here...it comes to around Aust'$16,000 (US$12,000). My Peruvian fiancee, like the sheilas in Russia, does not have,or earn, much money..so this is out of my pocket..,,but,but,but I am happy to do it..I am NOT whinging. So, you prospective "grooms"....be aware...it ain't cheap !! (Except, maybe, for our illustrious Simon !! no harm intended.)

You are wrong about a fiancee visa being the only way a Russian woman can get a visa to enter the USA. While it is difficult, a Russian woman who has a reasonably good job, has property in Russia, or children to return to (i.e, a good reason not to defect) can get a tourist visa. I know this for a fact, because a Russian woman I was corresponding with is currently visiting an American who brought her to see him on a tourist visa she has. I, too, was under the impression that the fiancee visa is the "only" way, but apparently it is not.
