Dameon- You will have no problems with the police, don't worry but you are not a kid so you should have control & don't get hot too fast, never forget that you are not in your country, with regards to American people, there is no ploblems at all, they like Americans, the country is full of Turkish, Arab & god knows what else so they are used to people from other countries & they will not hate you, never forget that the French never really love anyone else but them selves, it has been like this for a long time.
I don't know how you want to go to Romania, there is train but forget it & don't even think about it, it is shit, there are limited flights but I would think twice before I get on those planes but they may have better ones these days, I don't know. As for the visa, you can get it at the entry so I would not worry about it at all, it will cost you $60 for a single entry at the airport, as far as I know European & American passports can get visa at the arrival point.
With regards to the place that you will be staying, I will find out where exactly is & let you know.
If you are going to just visit & have fun, you don't really want to go to Romania, you are better off going to Odessa/Ukraine, it is better & a lot of fun & you get visa at the point of entry & they are very much used to Americans & like them. I know that Americans are not well received these days in some European countries (France). Is Moldova one of these countries?

Dameon- when you walking the city you will have no problems these days however in the old days the police used to stop you & ask for your ID just to get some money from you. there are a lot of people from all over the world out there now so the locals are used to them.
Stick with top Discos & restaurants as they are very safe with high securities. US$ is good there & the exchange rate is about 13 lay to a $ but you are better off changing your $ to their currency, you can do that in every corner where you see the exchange sign but never change in Hotels or restaurants as they tend to give you a very raw deal. There are three top night clubs in the capital and many very nice restaurants, the prices are very reasonable & taxis are cheap as well but there is a new company that has these new French cabs that are very good & safe.
Regarding the border with Ukraine, there is a small republic that is by the border of Odessa, it consists of a few cities but the most popular on e is called TIRASPOL. You can go there very easy, it is about 80k from the capital, they are fully independent & controled by the Russian government, they only speak Russian, not Romanian which is the language of the Moldovans. A taxi will get you there for about $50 to $60 return, he will deal with the boarder. you first pass the Moldovan boarder then for about 100+ meters you will be in the nutural ground that the Russians are policing then you come to the boarder of this republic, they do a short visa there & then for a very little money & you are in that section. There are not many things to see there as it is very small country so I would not go there because you will not miss anything but it is safe as I have been there over 20 times but I know people over there that I stay with as there are no good hotels & I usually go for a day & return at night, there is a new big hotle under construction that will be completed soon & it is a part of a massive sports complex that Man United played in that stadium a few years ago, it is one of the most advanced complexes that could only compared with the best in Europe.
Money talks there & not too much of it. If you like let me know which hotel you are going & I can tell you if it is good or not & also if you are with friends. Wish you luck & I hope the above can be of help to you.

The USA gov't is warning American Citizens to not travel into a certain region that borders the Ukraine due to some sort of conflict. How strong is the American Dollar there. Dameon- You are right to certain point but the fact remains that the number of scammers has gone crazy, for example the site LL, I really think that 9 out of 10 good looking ladies are scammers, I have lost heart in that site, don't even want to talk to anyone, even if it is for a bit of fun because most likely the lady is a man.
However I must admit that I have had three lady friends through this kind of dating, they have visited me & I have been to them, we are still friends but not marrying type however it does not stop us from having fun, so there are some ladies out there but it is hard boys, very hard. I wish you all good luck & if you have any questions, pls feel free to ask as I have been going to some of the former Russian countries for the past12 years but not only to chase ladies. Martin - Believe me, a lot of these scams are run individually by women. That is why I try and get them to send a photo holding my name or some other kind of symbol so I know the picture is recent.

Money for most of us is nothing but the deciet is the main factor here.
