Hi john,

I will try to explain the intriguing part. (thanks for the kind remark on my smile by the way). I’ll try to give you an idea about who I am. That will not be very easy because I am not someone who believes that writing emails will eventually reveal too much of what we are and who we are. But I am a realist and I understand that we have no other choice than introducing ourselves this way in order to see if there is a mutual interest in each other.

Okay I am a 27 year old Asian girl, you would probably say 26 but we start counting a bit earlier than you do. I am originally from a placed close to the Chinese border inside Burma. That does not make me a Burmese, or as Europeans say Burmans. Burmans are people who make up around 40% of the Burmese population and control 99% of the economical and repressive system. But enough about that. I fled with my parents as a very young child to Thailand, on a certain moment they gave us uniforms we were put is buses and never saw our parents again.

First we were put in the care of a rainbow coalition of NGO’s sponsored by American churches, so I stopped going to church returned to Buddhism as soon as I had the chance and never trust an NGO again. (governments I do not trust for a long long time already). Not that I have anything against churches there are very good people involved too and in Europe I got a great education in mainly Catholic schools so no hard feelings except for the missionaries who knew of course.

I grew up in England as well on the mainland. I hold a Burmese passport and a UK passport, I hold a degree in applied Math from a very well known university and I am a happy person.

After my studies I tried to go to Burma in order to find my parents. But as always there are governments and especially NGO’s involved who knows what is best. A boycott is best those empty heads will tell you, best for who? For them of course because it will create a job opportunity for them and people will put money in their bank accounts after all. I had helped written “License to rape” with Shan Women Action Network,. (SWAN) and it hurt to much of course when someone first write a report and than return and even tel that she is willing to speak and work with anyone in Burma.

In the end I had to fly via Bangkok, and the Ngo’s had managed to get my visa revoked so I could not leave Thailand through Burma what I wanted. I managed to get a work permit in Thailand and right now I am working in a village called Bannang Sata. It is a very dangerous place her with a lot of bombings and killings by Muslim insurgents but I have no much of a choice.

I am a quiet a bit introvert person, who sometimes has a problem trusting others, I am determined to make things work, I love reading and I like watching a movie. I like to watch sports and I love making food and taking care of people.

If you are still interested let me know.
Kit

Jon, as long as you are seriously looking for a relationship and willing to give it your best try I will promise that I will be serious to and very interested. I am not someone who give my word to one person and will in the meantime try to find someone else. No matter how long you are from home I will be there for you and you only. by the way I could use the time to get a real good job I have had several offers, one from Unilever and one from ING in London. Of course I would pay back. I will never ever be your beast of burden. but if you let me, I would leave as soon as possible darling, and I could change my ticket by tomorrow.

Hi Jon,
Well you know I think it is key that people stay together for a number of months so that they can learn to know each other. i do not believe in love at first sight and feel that love will mostly come when people take good care of each other.
I can get a job in the UK straight away that is not a problem either, I have received multiple offers. My problem is not that I will not be able to pay the bills if I am with you I can work and do so. my problem is not my ticket, my problem is the fact that i still need to see how I clear my work fee. If I could I would have done so and left this place months ago. I have some savings left around 20.000 baht but that is simply not enough. Have a look.
Miss you

The new registration procedures went into effect on March 1 and give previously registered migrants, and those still working illegally in the country, 30 days to remit a fee of 50,000 baht ($1,250).

The nonrefundable fee covers the cost of a work permit and is intended to guarantee government protection of workers and to crack down on migrants who relocate within the country without permission.

According to a Thai Labor Office representative in Mae Sot, Tak province—where some 200 industrial factories employ more than 80,000 Burmese migrant workers—only two employers have registered their workers under the new policy.

“We’ve received a lot of complaints from employers that they could not afford to pay the required deposit,” said the representative.

Other regions experienced a similarly low turnout. “In Chiang Mai, only eight employers submitted deposit money for their workers,” said Pranom Somwong, a project coordinator for the Migrant Assistance Program foundation, adding that only one employer had registered in Bangkok on the first day.

Government officials have claimed that the new registration policy was intended to encourage employers to take better care of the foreign workers in their charge, as well as to make it easier to control the flow of foreign workers who move around the country without permission or engage in criminal activity.

The Ministry of Labor’s official website today quoted Labor Minister Somsak Thepsutin as saying that in the last seven days, 500 employers across the country had complied with the new policy, and more are expected to fall in line by the end of the month.

According to official statistics, Thailand has over 1.2 million migrant workers (legal and illegal) from Burma, Cambodia and Laos. However, the country still faces a severe labor shortage to meet growing industrial demands, which has prompted officials to frequently revise registration policies.

The new procedure has drawn criticism from activists and NGOs, who say the deposit system is an unrealistic solution, and one which will lead to further exploitation of workers by their employers.

“We are deeply concerned about this [new] policy,” said Pranom, who also serves as a committee member for the Action Network for Migrants. “The policy is disagreeable…and doesn’t recognize migrant workers as human beings. The deposit money seems to represent an insurance policy for personal property.”

A Burmese labor activist with the Mae Sot-based Yaung Chi Oo Workers Association, which advises Burmese migrants on their rights, said employers in Mae Sot seem unwilling to comply with the new policy because of the high deposit fees required by the government.

“They are now keeping their workers silent about registration. I think they will ultimately comply, but only if the situation becomes unavoidable,” the activist said.

Maung Zaw, a Burmese construction worker in Mae Sot whose employer refused to allow him to register under the new policy, said he has no choice but to continue working illegally in the country.

“How can I afford this amount of money when I only earn 50 or 60 baht ($1.25 or $1.50) per day,” he said. “I can’t repay this money even if I save my whole salary for a year.”

Employers could face stiff penalties, including jail terms of up to 13 years, for hiring illegal workers, and unregistered immigrants would risk repatriation to their home countries after March 30, according to the new policy, which will be strictly enforced by immigration police.

Employers have generally resisted any fee requirement for their workers. “Even last year, when the registration fee was 3,800 baht (nearly $100), the system created problems. The higher deposit will only make things more complicated,” the Mae Sot Labor Office representative told The Irrawaddy today.

The MAP foundation’s Pranom Somwong has urged the government to conduct a countrywide review to gather realistic recommendations from migrant workers, employers and civil society organizations on how best to serve the country’s migrant communities.

“They need to make sure they are using labor laws to protect migrants from exploitation, that they have enough workers in individual sectors and that workers themselves are participating voluntarily to achieve legal working status,” she said. “They also need an appropriate mechanism for workers to address grievances and take advantage of their legal options.”

I am 30,000 baht short for the fee, I just checked for the ticket upgrade which cost 4,100 ThB and if I have a few thousand baht in Bangkok to survive I will make it. I spend very little money there as I do not have to run around and I can stay with my girlfriends so depending on how many days you are away I would say maybe 200 baht a day.

Hi jon,
I have just entered Bangkok darling. yes I understand the money laundering limits, I will not be surprised when those limits will go even further down in the next few years. After all we have found a very convenient new enemy as a replacement for the former Soviet Union, and no government in the West or in South East Asia would be willing to tackle the underlying problem for obvious reasons. Oops I should not have said that.

I do need very little money to survive here dear jon, life is not very expensive for local people. We do not go out and we do not visit expensive places.

I will leave you later today a telephone number. i will go to my girlfriends place (the address is: 128/44 nongsi Road, Chong nonsi, Yannawa, bangkok 10120) for your information (I do not know if you are familiar with Bangkok) it is in the very old neigborhood near the river. Most people know the Sulkhumvit road, you turn from the Sukhumvit on the asoke road, the asoke road in the direction to the Chao Phraya suddenly has the same name as the Rachadapisek Rd on the other side, but this is called TAT MAI, what means "New Cut" so the new piece of the Ratchada it is where Queeen Sirikit convention center is, you follow that road, and it turn into the Rama III road, just over the railway line you see an modern building in the form of a boat, it is obviously not THAT building ha ha, but around a hundred meter from that place. An old wooden building.

I will write you later, I plan to go to the ticket office today darling!

I MISS YOU

THEN NOTHING for afew days then this arrived

Dear mister Jon, I am a girlfriend of miss Kit. Please do not worry about her, but she has a little trouble with Thai immigration and cannot write you back. I will explain a bit later when I am sure that I mail to the right mister Jon. I found only one emailaddress on her machine with the name Jon or John, but I am not sure.

Miss Kaew

We are trying to get it fixes mister, but I assume that you are in that case the mister Jon. She is in Sathorn Tai road's detention centre, but we hope to get her our fairly soon. She is in court today, that is always very quickly. There seem to be a interpretation difference between the immigration in Bretong Yala and the headoffice at Suan Plu. The Bretong authorities have allowed her to stay in the country for up to 30 days, but the Suan Plu people insist that she MUST leave the country within 48 hours. When she went over for a stamp, they refused her stamp and arrested her for staying in the country on a Myanmarese passport without a proper visa. I hope to have more news around the clock of 10 pm Thai Time.
Kaew

I think she knows very well that you love her, she was in tears when I met her yesterday and seemed only worried about you.
Sincerely
Kaew

Dear mister Jon,
I have received a very short statement from the court, I will scan it for you. She is sentenced to 296 days in jail or a fine of 67 baht per day. She must leave the country within 48 hours if she opts for the fine. She says she has money left, but I am not sure if I can access that for her. I go to see her now and than I will find an internet cafe to scan the papers for you.

Sincerely
kaew
